Remember Driver on the PSOne? It was a classic cops'n'robbers driving game featuring cool muscle cars flying down San Francisco's famous hilly streets, and paved the way for GTA3 to take the genre to another level. The Driver franchise never quite kept pace (GTA3 even took the piss out of Driver 2's stick-man main character). Driver 76 is a real return to form - an action driving game with Hollywood-style car chases and the option to explore its free-roaming environment by foot – without stick men. The game's set in New York City in the decade that taste forgot, the 1970s. There are 27 missions around 6 central plot lines, plus side missions where you earn money to pimp your ride. There's also an extensive multiplayer mode and mini-games, plus a funkadelic '70s soundtrack. New York is faithfully mapped, the car modification bits are cool and there's the option to race too. Fun, action-filled and ultimately not too demanding - perfect for PSP, in other words. Groovy.
