It's finally here, the console everyone's been calling 'a bit bloomin' expensive'. And is it worth the dosh? We reckon definitely yes, but only if you haven't already got an Xbox 360. If you have, you may want to think of your PS3 as a long-term investment. Y'see, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation before it launched as damp squibs not many games, yer basic Ridge Racers and Tekkens and that's about it. But one year on, as outside developers like Rockstar started producing games worth yelling about, they were something everyone had to have. In other words, this, eventually, is going to be a key piece of kit. Right now on PlayStation 3 you've got a handful of exclusive games, which are pretty ace Resistance Fall Of Man and Motorstorm in particular though many titles have been on X360 for ages.
Technically it's a beautiful piece of machinery in every respect, though Sony's Blu-Ray versus HD DVD we'll sit on the fence with for now. Backwards compatability-wise, it's not perfect but there's a pretty substantial number of PS2 games that will work. You'll obviously be pleased to know, for example, that Barbie Horse Adventures IS fully playable on the PS3, though as with all available PS2 games you'll have to download the latest firmware patch from PlayStation Network first. A full list of what's currently playable can be found at http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc and they reckon they'll be adding more titles. But all in all you've got to love it, so if you've got the dosh, get down the shops.
