The latest, shiniest version of PES has all the quality of the previous versions but with enough polish (especially on the X360) to keep it up there as the best footie console game going. It looks beautiful, and boasts a few key improvements on gameplay. Emphasis has been put on dominating the midfield. Players tussle, nibble and force space off the ball, while better shielding and control allow you to hold the ball up. With the ball at your feet, a winger can zip down the line into space, whereas before you'd be hard pressed to pick a man out. These off-the-ball runs split the opposition in tow. Instant touch-and-hit shooting has been sharpened up, and mercifully the refs have finally worked out the off-side rule. Well, almost.
